Boonton to Host Annual “Railroad Museum [for a day]”

BOONTON — On Sunday, September 29, 2024, the United Railroad Historical Society of NJ will transform the URHS Restoration Facility into New Jersey’s largest railroad museum for a day. This highly anticipated annual event offers a unique, family-friendly opportunity to explore and admire historic trains and learn about their significance to the region. The event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 104 Morris Avenue, Boonton.

Activities Include:

  • Discover and explore over a dozen pieces of restored historic railroad equipment from New Jersey inside and out.
  • Visit vintage, historic, and antique vehicles.
  • Sit in the cab of a natural, running locomotive.
  • Enjoy live music.
  • Tour the historic New York Central “Tavern-Lounge No. 43.”
  • Meet and engage with railroaders and railroad preservationists.
  • Take a shuttle bus to the Boonton Day street fair on Main Street, featuring food trucks, vendors, and more family fun!

Parking and Accessibility:

Event parking is available at the Upper Plane Street municipal lot, conveniently located next to the Boonton Day street fair on Main Street. A free shuttle bus will transport visitors to the Museum [for a day].

Parking for those with state-issued disabled parking permits is available on-site at 104 Morris Ave., Boonton, upon request. While the museum grounds are wheelchair accessible, please note that due to the historic nature of the artifacts, the locomotives and cars are not wheelchair accessible. The grounds are mostly flat but covered in coarse gravel.

Admission:

  • Adults: $8.00 online, $10.00 at the door
  • Children (12 and under): $4.00 online, $5.00 at the door
