MORRIS COUNTY — Fairleigh Dickinson University has been awarded the Expanding Access to Computer Science Education: Professional Learning Hubs grant from the NJ Department of Education. This grant will support the creation of a Computer Science Hub at FDU (the CS Hub at FDU) by building and leveraging key partnerships with stakeholders. The CS Hub will be led by faculty at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science housed at the Florham Campus of FDU.

The aim of the project is to expand access and opportunities for educators to participate in high-quality professional learning experiences in CS education. The CS Hub at FDU, in partnership with the Local Education Agency (LEAs) will expand equitable access and participation for K-12 students in impactful CS experiences via professional learning for educators, curricula development, and promoting the expansion of CS activities all over New Jersey.

We are pleased to announce that the six LEAs working in partnership with FDU are the districts of Boonton, Florham Park, Hackettstown, Hanover Park Regional, Jersey City, and Morristown.

With the expertise of experienced faculty, the CS Hub at FDU will offer cutting-edge curricula resources and hands-on training for teachers in areas of algorithmic thinking, cybersecurity, and game development. These opportunities will be available for the LEAs and will expand access to other school districts as well. Highly motivated and successful graduate and undergraduate students will participate and provide support to broaden impact on K-12 students.  The 17-month project will engage administrators, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders in a partnership rooted in best practices and research. The CS Hub at FDU will collaborate with the CS Hubs at Kean University and Rutgers University, through resource sharing and outreach for community events.
