MOUNTAIN LAKES — The Mountain Lakes Democrats fully support, welcome, and appreciate the resolution passed by its Borough Council this week proclaiming June 2021 as Pride Month. With this resolution, Mountain Lakes joins the White House, the Governor’s office, and other Morris County municipalities in honoring the history of the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement and supporting the rights of all citizens to experience equality and freedom from discrimination.

In a 4-2 vote on June 14, Mayor Tom Menard, along with Deputy Mayor Lauren Barnett, Councilwoman Cynthia Korman and Councilman Khizar Sheikh, voted to support and pass the resolution.

As the resolution states, “Whereas, celebrating Pride Month raises awareness and provides support for the LGBTQ+ community, and is an opportunity to become educated, engage in dialogue, and build understanding. It is essential to acknowledge that the need for education and awareness remains vital to end discrimination and prejudice.”
