DOVER — Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Dover Police Chief Jonathan Delaney confirmed that Dwayne A. Brown, 27, Wharton, has been charged with armed robbery in connection with an incident in Dover on Saturday, June 28.
On June 28 at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Dover Police responded to a deli on Richards Avenue for a report of an armed robbery. An employee reported that a man wearing a mask entered the deli, approached a customer who was at the counter, and grabbed his arm while pointing a handgun at him. The suspect then told the firearm at the two employees behind the register and demanded money. The employees turned over $360, and the suspect exited the deli. A subsequent investigation revealed the suspect left the area following the robbery in a vehicle.
As a result of further investigation, Brown was taken into custody on June 29 and was charged with three counts of Robbery, in violation of NJSA 2C:15-1a(2), crimes of the first degree; one count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Handgun), in violation of NJSA 2C:39-5b(1), a crime of the second degree; one count of Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, in violation of NJSA 2C:39-4a(1), a crime of the second degree; and three counts of Aggravated Assault (pointing a firearm at an individual), in violation of NJSA 2C:12-1b(4), crimes of the fourth degree.
Under the Criminal Justice Reform Act, the Defendant has been detained in the Morris County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing scheduled for July 3.
Prosecutor Carroll recognized the law enforcement agencies that participated in this investigation, which led to a swift arrest, including the Dover Police Department, specifically Dover Police Detective Juan Concepcion, Wharton Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Special Operations Division. Chief Delaney, Chief McNally, Sheriff James Gannon, and Prosecutor Carroll also credit the inter-agency cooperation for the quick identification and apprehension of the defendant.
Prosecutor Carroll said: “The public should be assured that crimes of violence will be met with a coordinated, persistent, and effective police response until resolution.”
