TRENTON — Employers across New Jersey are required to report every employee separation electronically through the Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s Employer Access portal.

The requirement applies to all separations regardless of the reason, including layoffs, terminations, resignations and retirements.

Employers must provide separation information immediately when an employee becomes unemployed. The law requires electronic reporting so that unemployment benefit determinations can be made more quickly.

Employers who willfully fail to furnish the required reports face penalties.
