DOVER — A threat involving a Dover Middle School student prompted a shelter-in-place at the school on Friday, October 23, according to officials.
Authorities learned of the threat Friday morning, and the school entered a shelter-in-place out of an abundance of caution, according to school representatives, who said students were “visibly upset and concerned” by the threat.
Dover Police said the person involved with the threat has been identified, and that there is no longer a known threat to students or staff of Dover Middle School, nor to the general public.
The shelter-in-place has since been lifted. According to Superintendent Luis A. Jaime, school administrators visited classrooms throughout the building to “speak directly with students, address their concerns, and reassure them that they were in a safe and supportive environment.”
“We understand that situations like these can create anxiety for students and families. Please know that the emotional well-being and safety of our students remain our highest priorities,” Jaime said. “Thank you for your continued trust, understanding, and partnership.”
Dover Police said that because the situation involves a minor, no additional details will be released at this time.
