MORRIS TOWNSHIP — Convent Station Neighbors for Responsible Progress has endorsed George Talarico, Joscelin Grizzetti and John Biehl for Morris Township Committee, citing concerns about overdevelopment, municipal spending, storm response and whether residents’ voices are being heard.
The group said it was formed to promote residents’ right to be heard and to ensure that local government works for the people rather than a political party. In its endorsement, the group concluded: “Local governments must put its constituents over their political party. Sadly, this Committee has failed. It is time for change.”
Convent Station is a historic section of Morris Township, with established neighborhoods whose character and quality of life the group says deserve protection. The endorsement comes amid residents’ concerns about the large high-density development under construction on Madison Avenue, the continuing neglect of the Abbey and the cumulative effects of development on surrounding neighborhoods.
“These are our neighbors living with the consequences of decisions made at Town Hall,” the campaign said in response. “They see the construction. They deal with the traffic. They watch the Abbey deteriorate. They deserve answers, a plan and a meaningful voice before decisions are made.”
The campaign welcomed the endorsement as an expression of support from residents in the established communities at the heart of Morris Township and an affirmation of its central commitment to putting people before politics.
“Every resident deserves to be heard, every tax dollar deserves scrutiny, and decisions affecting our neighborhoods deserve open discussion before the votes are cast,” the campaign stated. “We deeply appreciate this endorsement. We intend to earn that confidence every day.”
After the campaign thanked the group, Convent Station Neighbors for Responsible Progress reaffirmed its support, writing: “We started this [Facebook] page in support of common sense and are greatly looking forward to its return.”
Talarico, Grizzetti and Biehl pledged to bring experience, independent judgment and accountability to Township government, with a focus on responsible development, careful spending and planning for the demands placed on roads, infrastructure and first responders.
“We love this Township. It is our home, and we care about what we leave to the next generation,” the campaign said. “Our neighborhoods are worth protecting. Our residents are worth listening to. And their government should work as hard for them as they work to pay for it.”
The general election is Tuesday, November 3.
