MORRIS COUNTY — A 65-year-old Hackettstown man was sentenced Friday to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison for robbing a Denville Township bank of approximately $6,000 earlier this year, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll.
Jason H. Perlett, 65, of Hackettstown, was sentenced Friday, November 6, by Superior Court Judge Ralph Amirata after pleading guilty on Monday, June 29, to one count of second-degree robbery. The sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act, which requires Perlett to serve 85 percent of his prison term before becoming eligible for parole.
According to authorities, the robbery occurred Monday, March 23, at the Bank of America branch at 125 East Main Street in Denville.
At approximately 3:58 p.m., law enforcement received a report that a man had entered the bank, handed a teller a note demanding money and fled with approximately $6,000 in cash. No weapon was displayed during the robbery, authorities said.
Following the robbery, the suspect entered a nearby vehicle and fled the area.
Investigators said New Jersey State Police later spotted the suspect’s vehicle traveling on Route 10 in Roxbury Township. At approximately 5:00 p.m., officers from the Roxbury Police Department and New Jersey State Police conducted a motor vehicle stop and took Perlett, who was driving the vehicle, into custody.
Authorities recovered evidence and suspected proceeds from the robbery inside the vehicle.
Perlett was subsequently charged and remained detained at the Morris County Correctional Facility while awaiting the resolution of his case.
Carroll credited several law enforcement agencies for their involvement in the investigation, including the Denville Police Department, Roxbury Police Department, Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigations and K9 Units, Morristown Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, New Jersey State Police and Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
