HANOVER — A conciliation agreement has been established between the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs and UniFirst Corp. to address alleged gender-related pay discrepancies at 54 South Jefferson Road, Whippany, facility.
As part of the agreement, UniFirst Corp. will compensate 48 female production staff members a total of $226,341, which includes back pay and interest. Additionally, the company will reassess its salary policies, particularly in the production department, to ensure fair compensation.
Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs Regional Director Samuel B. Maiden in Philadelphia affirmed, “The U.S. Department of Labor stands firm in its mission to rectify pay imbalances and to ensure federal contractors maintain fairness in employee compensation.”
An OFCCP review revealed that, since July 1, 2020, female non-supervisory production workers at UniFirst Corp. received lesser pay than their male colleagues.
The pay discrepancy was found to be in violation of Executive Order 11246, which mandates non-discrimination by federal contractors on grounds of race, color, gender, gender identity, or national origin.”
