JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP — Three Rivers Drive will be closed to through traffic beginning Monday, August 3, after the morning rush hour, for the replacement of the Three Rivers Drive Bridge over Weldon Brook.
The bridge closure will require motorists to follow a signed detour of approximately two and a half miles via Bowling Green Parkway, Route 15, Espanong Road and Venetian Drive.
The existing bridge, a single-span timber structure built in 1970, has deteriorated over time. The timber bridge deck has decayed, the timber sidewalks have settled, and some loss of material has occurred in the foundation area, making replacement the most practical long-term solution.
The new bridge will consist of a three-sided precast concrete frame with precast wing walls and a four-bar steel railing. Construction is expected to be completed in approximately six months, weather permitting.
The $1,169,082 project is funded by the New Jersey Department of Transportation through its Local Bridges Fund Program and is being completed by CMS Construction of Plainfield, under contract with Morris County. The bridge is owned by Jefferson Township, which funded the project’s design, while Morris County is overseeing construction in partnership with the township.
