MORRIS COUNTY — Lane closures are scheduled on Interstate 287 northbound Friday night as a bridge replacement project advances in Hanover and Morris Township.

From 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 23, until 9:00 a.m. Saturday, October 24, two lanes on Interstate 287 northbound are scheduled to be closed so crews can restripe the roadway and place construction barrier to shift traffic and set up a long-term left shoulder closure underneath the Hanover Avenue Bridge, between mileposts 37.2 and 37.6. At least two lanes will be maintained overnight.

By 9:00 a.m. Saturday, October 24, all lanes on Interstate 287 northbound will reopen, with all traffic shifted to the right toward the right shoulder. The left shoulder will remain closed. This traffic pattern is expected to stay in place through next spring and is necessary for bridge abutment repairs and other improvements in the left shoulder.

Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution and expect delays when traveling through the work zone.

The work is part of a $17.5 million federally funded project that will replace the concrete bridge deck on the Hanover Avenue (County Route 650) Bridge over Interstate 287. The project will also improve drainage, lighting, signage and fencing on the bridge, and replace sidewalks and upgrade curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards. Construction is expected to be completed in the spring of the following year.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists can check the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s traffic information website, www.511nj.org, for construction updates and real-time travel information.
