Local Bilingual Resident Christian Fuentes Promoted to Police Officer in Dover

DOVER — Under the approval of Resolution 88-2024 by the Town of Dover Mayor and Council, Christian Fuentes has been officially appointed as a police officer starting January 13, with an annual salary of $71,551.00.

A resident of Dover and fluent in two languages, Fuentes brings a unique set of skills to the police force.

Before this promotion, Fuentes served as a Special Law Enforcement Officer 2, having graduated from the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy on November 20, 2023.

Fuentes initially joined the Dover Police Department in July 2023, filling the vacancy left by a departing Special Law Enforcement Officer. He completed both the Basic Police Training and subsequent Field Training programs.

MORRIS PLAINS — The “Cookies for a Cause” initiative orchestrated by Chick-fil-A turned out to be a remarkable triumph. Drew Blind, the owner of Chick-fil-A Morris Plains, proudly handed over a check totaling nearly $3,000 to Dan McGuire, CEO of Homeless Solutions, and Stephanie Cicale, Chief Development Officer.

Kicking off on Saturday, February 3, and running through February 17, the campaign allocated a portion of the proceeds from every cookie sold towards supporting Homeless Solutions. This organization dedicates itself to offering shelter, services, and supportive housing to individuals facing hardships within our Morris County community.

Reflecting on the endeavor, Drew Blind remarked, “Our team excelled, selling over four times our usual amount of cookies, all for such a worthy cause.”

Morris County Residents: Shape the Future of Education by Joining the CCM Board of Trustees

MORRIS COUNTY — Morris County residents interested in serving on the County College of Morris (CCM) Board of Trustees are invited to send their resumes to a special trustee search committee of the Morris County Board of County Commissioners.

Resumes for the one vacant trustee seat must be received by April 1, 2024. The CCM Trustee Search Committee will review all the applications and then submit recommendations to the Morris County Board of County Commissioners, who will make the appointment. 

Morris County is seeking to fill the vacancy of a four-year unexpired term, which term shall begin immediately upon appointment and end on October 31, 2027.

To qualify for consideration by the search committee, a candidate must be a resident of Morris County for at least four years and may not currently hold elected office in Morris County or be an employee of Morris County government or CCM.              

Applicants must be able to demonstrate independent judgment, distinction in their profession, knowledge of higher education, involvement in their community and a firm commitment to serving the college. A candidate must be willing to commit at least 20-30 hours a month to his or her duties as a college trustee to be considered for appointment.

Duties of trustees include appointing, supporting, and evaluating the college president; clarifying and, if necessary, revising the college’s mission statement, ratifying long term plans, approving the college’s educational program, ensuring fiscal viability, and maintaining the college’s physical plant.

Requirements: The CCM Trustee Search Committee requests each applicant submit a resume and a background statement outlining why he or she wishes to serve as a trustee and what specific skills the applicant would bring to the board.

Applicants must send one copy of their resume and a brief background statement to the Office of the Morris County Counsel, County of Morris, P.O. Box 900, Morristown, N.J. 07963-0900.

The CCM Board of Trustees is composed of eleven Morris County residents from business, education, law, and other professional fields, who volunteer their services in four-year terms. 

By statute, eight members are appointed by the Morris County Board of County Commissioners, and two members are appointed by the Governor. The Morris County Superintendent of Schools is also a member of the Board by statute. One non-voting CCM graduate member is elected for a one-year term by each year’s graduating class. In addition, the CCM President serves as an ex-officio member.

The Board of Trustees sets policy and has final authority over budgets and expenditures, and the President is responsible for internal administrative operations.

Whippany’s First Presbyterian Youth Hosts Spaghetti Dinner

HANOVER — The First Presbyterian Youth group is gearing up for a significant event aimed at supporting their community. On Sunday, March 3rd, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., they will be hosting a Spaghetti Dinner at the First Presbyterian Church.

The event promises an evening of delicious food and community camaraderie. Guests will be treated to all-you-can-eat spaghetti with homemade meat or marinara sauce, accompanied by salad, rolls, beverages, and dessert. The menu caters to all ages and tastes, with adults priced at $12.00 and children/seniors at $8.00.

Speeding Driver Arrested in Dover: Cristofer S. Camacho-Morale Faces Multiple Charges

DOVER — On February 6 at 11:29 p.m., Cristofer S. Camacho-Morale, aged 26 and residing in Dover, was apprehended by Dover Police Officer German Liranzo, on West McFarlan Street and Pequannock Street.

Camacho-Morale was behind the wheel of a 2005 Mazda when he was taken into custody.

He faces charges including Traffic on Marked Lanes (39:4-88), Speeding (39:4-98) at 50 miles per hour in a 25-mile-per-hour zone, Failure to Yield the Right of Way (39:4-91), DWI on School Property or Within 1000 Feet of a School (39:4-50(G)(1)), Careless Driving (39:4-97), and Operating Under the Influence of Liquor or Drugs (39:4-50). His Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) measured .13% on the Alcotest. A court appearance is required on all the summons issued to Camacho-Morale.

The current blood alcohol concentration limit for driving while intoxicated in New Jersey is 0.08% BAC.

Bunky’s Towing removed Camacho-Morale’s vehicle from the scene, and he was released to a responsible individual after his arrest.

Lexus Driver Arrested After Early Morning Crash

DOVER — On February 5 at 1:29 a.m., Erica Perez, aged 36 and residing in Randolph, was involved in a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Penn Avenue and Second Street.

Perez was operating a 2023 Silver Lexus at the time of the incident.

Following the accident, Dover Police Officer German Liranzo arrested Perez. She was charged with several offenses including Driving Under the Influence (39:4-50), Failure to Present an Approved Windshield Card (39:3-75.2(B)), Disregard of a Stop Sign (39:4-144), Safety Glass Violation (39:3-75), Consent to Breath Sample (39:4-50.2), Careless Driving (39:4-97), and Driving While Intoxicated on School Property or Within 100 Feet of School (39-4:50(G)(1)).

Bunky’s Towing towed Perez’s vehicle from the scene, and Perez herself was released to a responsible individual following her arrest.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, this Defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Morris County Residents Arrested on Various Charges During Denville Traffic Stop

MORRIS COUNTY — Denville Police reported that on February 24, an officer stopped a vehicle due to a moving violation. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Dionnie Barnes, 26, Parsippany-Troy Hills, who was charged with possession of psilocybin mushrooms, DUI, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain lane, possession of narcotics in a motor vehicle, and possession of an alcohol container.

Additionally, a passenger identified as Tatiana Pearson, 26, from Rockway, was apprehended for possessing an active Denville Municipal Court ATS warrant.

Both Barnes and Pearson were subsequently released pending their court appearances.

Man Wanted for Aggravated Assault Shooting Arrested During Routine Boonton Township Traffic Stop

BOONTON TOWNSHIP — Police arrested a man wanted for aggravated assault in connection with a shooting in East Orange during a routine traffic stop in Boonton Township earlier this month.

According to authorities, on February 16, officers were conducting traffic surveillance on Powerville Road when they noticed a vehicle with heavily tinted windows. Upon running a plate check, they discovered that the registered owner’s license and registration were suspended.

Subsequently, officers pulled over the vehicle and approached the driver, identified as 29-year-old Bernard James from East Orange. During the interaction, it was revealed that James had an active warrant for aggravated assault with the East Orange shooting.

James was taken into custody, and his vehicle was impounded pending a search warrant by East Orange detectives.

Additionally, James was cited for driving with a suspended license, having a suspended registration, and lacking liability insurance before being handed over to the East Orange Violent Crimes Task Force.

Notice of the meeting was sent to the Daily Record and Star-Ledger on January 2, 2024, and published in the Record and Ledger on January 5, 2024. Notice was also posted on the Bulletin Board of the Municipal Building.” These notices were sent within 48 hours before this meeting and were sent in sufficient time for the publications to publish them.

The Town of Dover highly values the input of residents in making important decisions that affect the residents of our community. We also believe in the rights of residents to observe Governing Body Meetings.
