HANOVER TOWNSHIP — The Southeast Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (SMCMUA), serving Hanover Township, wants its service area to now that a postcard from AWP, based in Delaware being distributed to customers asking them to call the company for water testing is unauthorized.
“We attempted to call the number listed but were unable to speak to a representative,” an SMCMUA advisory sent on Monday, November 4 noted.
“Review of our records indicate a similar notice was distributed in 2016 where, at that time, we contacted AWP and were informed that the postcard mailer was for a water testing service being offered by Home Depot. An internet search on the return address resulted in BBB reference identifying the company AWP as Atlantic Water Products.
“SMCMUA does not support the solicitation being made for water testing by Home Depot and/or AWP.
“The Authority is committed to providing superior quality water that exceeds the standards established by the Federal and State Safe Drinking Water Acts. We encourage members of our community to contact us directly and to visit our website for additional information on our water quality, including our annual consumer confidence reports.”
Consumers can report non-emergency questions or concerns to the Customer Service Division at (973) 326-6880 or [email protected]. Emergency conditions should be reported directly to (973) 326-6880 during normal business hours and (973) 867-1758 for after hour emergencies. Additional information is available on their website by clicking here.
HANOVER TOWNSHIP — Hanover Township Landmark Commission invites you to join us for a “first,” on Saturday, November 9, when we will honor our earliest veterans resting in the Whippany Burying Yard. The event is an early Veterans Day. How twice appropriate. The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Please park in the next door Casa de Montecristo parking lot.
While the 301 year-old site on Route 10 is usually thought of as a place of “lasts,” i.e., the last resting place of many early settlers; it is also a place of many firsts: the first Burying Yard, church, school, military training ground, and known grave in North-West New Jersey.
All this has led the site to be nationally recognized as the historic crown jewel of Morris County; the centerpiece of what is becoming known as “Whippany Historic (WiHi). American Soldiers from the French & Indian, Revolutionary, and Civil Wars rest there after their service, a tradition that continued. Whippany was called “The Silent Village” in the Second World War, because all who could serve, did. Since then, our men and women have continued this tradition of service, offering to sacrifice their lives so that we all can be free.
On November 9 meet Hanover Township Veterans who served in the Second World War, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq. Four of them will speak. A fifth will read the names of those heroes there, men and women, who served our nation before and at its birth; and later, when its character was being defined. A bell will toll for each.
Scouts from Hanover Township will conduct the Flag Ceremony. Members of the Township’s 8th grade will be in attendance to meet our veteran heroes. Traditions continue to be passed down.
The morning’s ceremony will conclude with a dedication of a cross to replace the one that stood in the Burying Yard. There will be a guided tour afterwards for those who wish to walk the grounds. Light refreshments will be served.
God Bless America.

MORRIS COUNTY — In a letter received from Morris County Surrogate John Pecoraro it states:

TRENTON — Governor Phil Murphy ordered that the U.S. and New Jersey flags be flown at half-staff at all state buildings and facilities on Monday, November 4, in recognition of the passing of U.S. Representative Bill Hughes. Hughes a Democratic congressman in a heavily Republican part of New Jersey and later served as U.S. Ambassador to Panama under President Bill Clinton, died at his home on Wednesday. He was 87.
“Congressman Bill Hughes represented his South Jersey district for 20 years, but he was nothing less than a New Jersey icon,”said Governor Murphy. “He was a public school product and a Rutgers graduate two times over. As a prosecutor in Cape May, he fought to keep residents safe. As a respected Congressman, he fought to protect the Jersey Shore from polluters and the Pinelands from development. As U.S. Ambassador to Panama under President Clinton, he served our nation on the world stage.
“Tammy and I send our condolences to his children and their families, and to all who knew him and called him a friend. Congressman Hughes will continue to inspire future leaders through the work of the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy at Stockton University, perhaps the most fitting tribute to his tremendous legacy.”

He was appointed to this post by U.S. President George W. Bush.

MORRIS COUNTY — It’s happening whether you like it or not: Daylight Saving Time will end at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 3.
Time will magically move backwards by one hour. So when you get ready for bed the night before, be sure to move the clocks in your home back. Otherwise, you’ll be waking up an hour earlier than you may have wanted to.
This adjustment typically takes place automatically on smartphones, computers and tablets. Those with non-automated devices will have to manually change the time.
The end of daylight saving time also means lots of folks get to drive home from work in the dark. That’s no fun. Turn your lights on and be safe.
