MADISON — On Monday, May 20, Fairfield police arrested Aimee Lorenzo, 36, of Verona, and Matthew Beltran, 32, of Madison, on shoplifting charges. At approximately 9:55 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Target store on Route 46 in response to a report of a shoplifter in custody. Officer Jesse Schnackenberg arrived to find Lorenzo being detained by Target security. Sergeant Christopher Hlubik and Officer Louis Bisciotti also arrived to assist.
Lorenzo and Beltran allegedly entered Target, removed a security device from an electric scooter, and left the store separately. Security detained Lorenzo while Beltran exited the store without paying for the scooter. After arresting Lorenzo, officers were informed that Beltran had returned to the store. He was located and arrested as well. The scooter, valued at $349.99, was recovered and returned to Target.
Lorenzo faces charges of shoplifting, conspiracy, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released pending an initial appearance at the Essex County Courthouse on July 30. Beltran is charged with shoplifting and conspiracy and was transported to the Essex County Jail pending an initial appearance.
