EAST HANOVER — Edward James Hutcherson of East Hanover has earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Maryland Global Campus, completing his degree requirements during the fall 2025 term.

Hutcherson was among more than 6,400 students worldwide who graduated from UMGC this past fall, reflecting the university’s continued commitment to serving working adults, military servicemembers, and transfer students seeking flexible higher education opportunities.

Founded more than 75 years ago to serve the higher education needs of working adults and members of the armed forces, UMGC has grown into the largest provider of postsecondary education in Maryland. Headquartered in Adelphi, the university offers more than 135 degrees and certificates through online and hybrid formats, supported by more than 175 classroom and service locations worldwide. As part of the University System of Maryland, UMGC combines flexibility with the credibility of a respected public university system.

Professional Experience in Morris County

In addition to his academic accomplishment, Hutcherson currently serves as a Personal Banker at Citizens Bank in Morristown, a role he has held since December 2024.

In his position, Hutcherson serves as the primary operational lead and officer-in-charge of the branch for extended periods, overseeing daily workflows, transaction approvals, and staff coordination. He independently manages the majority of branch operations—even when management is present—acting as the point of contact for escalations and complex operational matters.

His responsibilities include:

  • Authorizing and reviewing high-dollar cash and wire transactions, ensuring adherence to internal controls and risk policies
  • Supporting liquidity readiness through vault oversight, cash ordering coordination, and monitoring of cash exceptions
  • Ensuring accurate completion and maintenance of consumer and business account documentation in compliance with audit and regulatory standards
  • Assisting in onboarding and training new staff on transaction accuracy, compliance requirements, and operational best practices

With a strong foundation in finance and hands-on experience in branch leadership and risk oversight, Hutcherson is building a career centered on operational excellence and financial stewardship.
