MORRIS COUNTY — A Flanders man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after a Denville police unit observed his vehicle failing to proceed through a green light early Thursday, July 9, according to the Denville Police Department.

At approximately 1:43 a.m., after a full light cycle had passed, a patrol officer made contact with the driver, later identified as Gilberto Castillo, 49, of Flanders, and asked him to exit the vehicle. During the investigation, Castillo displayed signs of intoxication and was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence of liquor or drugs.

Castillo was transported to Denville Police Headquarters for processing and released on his own recognizance pending a future court appearance in Denville Township Municipal Court. Before his release, he was issued the following motor vehicle summonses:

  • Operating under the influence of liquor or drugs
  • Careless driving, likely to endanger person or property
  • Delaying traffic
  • Reckless driving

Editor’s Note: The charges outlined in this publication are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
