BOONTON — Fire officers, a color guard and marching units led the Boonton Fire Department’s 135th anniversary parade down Main Street Saturday afternoon, with John Osborne of the department serving as grand marshal.
Boonton Mayor James Lynch greeted members of the department as the parade lined up along Main Street ahead of the procession.
The parade stepped off at 1:30 p.m., proceeding down Main Street toward Boonton High School. The procession, organized by the department’s Parade Committee, included fire companies, marching bands, community groups, floats and antique apparatus.
The parade capped a Labor Day weekend carnival at the Boonton High School field on Lathrop Avenue, featuring rides, games and food vendors, with proceeds supporting the all-volunteer department, which responds to more than four hundred calls a year. Fireworks were scheduled for Sunday evening alongside the carnival’s Super 50/50 drawing.
