DOVER — A Dover man was charged with Driving While Intoxicated early Saturday, August 29, after police said he was driving on East Blackwell Street without his headlights on.
Eber N. Molina Crisostomo, 31, was arrested by Dover Police Officer Ulises Corona following the stop at approximately 1:09 a.m., according to police reports.
Officer Corona was patrolling east on East Blackwell Street when he spotted a gold 2002 Honda heading west with its headlights off, according to the report. He signaled to the driver about the lights, but the driver kept going. Officer Corona turned around and activated his emergency lights at the intersection of North Morris Street. The driver turned right onto North Morris Street and slowed but did not stop, then turned into the alleyway between North Morris Street and North Essex Street before turning left onto North Essex Street, where he finally stopped near the bridge.
When Officer Corona approached, the vehicle was still in drive, and the driver was slow to put it in park, according to the report. Officer Corona detected the odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and observed that the driver had slurred speech and was avoiding eye contact. Molina Crisostomo first said he had nothing to drink, then later said he had three beers. Officer Rubens Moreau arrived to assist.
Molina Crisostomo performed poorly on a series of field sobriety tests, according to police. During the Walk and Turn test, he swayed, raised his arms for balance, stumbled several times and did not turn around as instructed. During the One Leg Stand test, he leaned to the left and put his foot down shortly after starting.
He was placed under arrest, and his vehicle was impounded by Bunky’s Towing. At police headquarters, Molina Crisostomo agreed to provide breath samples. The Alcotest instrument recorded a blood alcohol content of 0.145 percent, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
Molina Crisostomo was charged with:
- Driving While Intoxicated (N.J.S.A. 39:4-50)
- Reckless Driving (N.J.S.A. 39:4-96)
- Careless Driving (N.J.S.A. 39:4-97)
- Failure to Use Lighted Lamps When Required (N.J.S.A. 39:3-47a)
He was issued the summonses and released to a friend.
