HANOVER TOWNSHIP — Hanover Township Police Officer Matt Garrison arrested Mr. Tyrese Gregory, 20, Newark, for shoplifting on Friday, July 10.

Officer Garrison was dispatched to Wal-Mart for a possible shoplifting incident. Upon arrival, the store’s loss prevention officer advised patrols that Mr. Gregory had stolen a vacuum and when he was exiting the store, threatened to kill the loss prevention officer for calling the police.

He then got into a vehicle and fled the scene. Patrols were able to locate the vehicle on East Hanover Avenue and Ridgedale Avenue and initiated a motor vehicle stop.

After an investigation, Mr. Gregory was arrested and charged with terroristic threats, hindering apprehension, and shoplifting. He was additionally charged with three more counts of shoplifting and conspiracy from earlier shoplifting captured on surveillance video also at Wal-Mart.

He was transported to Morris County Correctional Facility pending his court date.

Editor’s Note: An arrest or the signing of a criminal complaint is merely an accusation.  Despite this accusation, the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until he or she has been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
