Pine Plaza Redevelopment Update

HANOVER TOWNSHIP — The former Pine Plaza site is in the process of being demised. The buildings have been eliminated, and the site is currently being stabilized as we await the cleanup of debris and redevelopment efforts to begin. The future of Pine Plaza is influenced by a court-ordered settlement resulting from a settlement with the Fair Share Housing Council. The court settlement calls for two components at the Pine Plaza site to include a single-user retail big box store and sixty market rate townhouses.

The surrounding neighborhood of Old Mt. Pleasant Avenue and Legion Place residences have been insulated from this envisioned development in an effort to preserve the residential character of the neighborhood through a combination of tree planting buffering along the side yards and the elimination of cut-through traffic.

Progress on this Pine Plaza development, unfortunately, has been slowed as a result of business matters between the developer and retailer and the permitting process with the New Jersey DEP involving Patriots’ Path. We look forward to seeing the redevelopment plan proceed as soon as possible.

In addition to the Pine Plaza redevelopment site, as part of the court-ordered settlement, an affordable senior housing building will be built at two locations, namely on property on No. Jefferson Road and Park Avenue. A total of 60 affordable units will be constructed at each location.
